Anne's relations with the Fielding family and their effect upon her make up the story which is brought to a climax in the reaction of Mazie when she learns that her husband, Jerrold Fielding, and Anne are lovers. Somewhat psychoanalytic in treatment with the same vivid characterization that marked The Tree of Heaven.
