This question is developed in the course of an American story of present-day society life, the scene of which is sometimes New York City, more often a village seemingly not very far away. The leading characters, a brother and sister of Dutch descent, marry respectively a sister and brother of another family, not, however, with universal approval of relatives, nor with as happy results as would be wished.
